How Much Carbon is Sequestered in Those Two Eucalyptus Trees?

How much Carbon is sequestered in those two eucalyptus trees? Let’s ask Dr. Jeff Wright.

The Forest Owners Research and Technology Exchange (FORTE) has two major parts. One is the focused forest investment Research and Technology. The other equally important part is the Exchange. The Exchange boils down in large part to reporting, sharing, and people. The people are important, i.e. they share their individual experiences about tree growing techniques, land purchases, seedling types, investing strategies, contractor uses, harvesting options, tax strategies, conservation, sustainability, forestry careers, and general life around forestry.  Our communication and relationships with these people end up deeply impacting our forestry investments and our lives.

I’m excited that the upcoming FORTE meeting will feature one of the most impactful people in my forestry career. Dr. Jeff Wright, who will share about “Forest Carbon Market Opportunities for Private Forest Landowners”, has been a great forestry friend and mentor to me (many field days, indoor presentations, PhD committee, joint articles, meals and visits, family discussions, etc.).  Jeff, while currently working as Landowner Key Accounts Manager for NCX, has seen a LOT of forestry in a LOT of places. He has worked on projects in over 50 countries (including Uruguay, pictured here) in his career. Projects and focuses have included tree breeding, forestry research, project development, and overall forest system management (for many species: pine, eucalypts, acacia, poplar, sweetgum, and others), and now, carbon. The result is that Jeff knows people and systems and forestry, well.  One of Jeff’s gifts is vision. People with vision are rare in this world. Jeff is gracious enough to stay for the entire meeting (September 14-15, 2021 in Tuscaloosa) and this will offer the opportunity to more fully Exchange with FORTE Participants.  This is a real value of the Forest Owners Research and Technology Exchange!
